The Johner
Where the river runs backwards and the weekend doesn't.
Twice a day the Bay of Fundy shoves the whole Wolastoq backwards through the Reversing Rapids — the only river around too stubborn to pick a direction. Sounds about right. The Johner is the new field guide to the briny, brick-and-fog harbour city the Loyalists laid out in 1783 and nobody's managed to leave since.
We're charting the good stuff: the chowder line at the City Market (open since 1876, thanks), the patios down Prince William Street, a pint in a candle-lit Trinity Royal cellar, live sets at the Imperial, and the lobster roll worth the drive. From King Square to a foggy morning on the Fundy Trail, this is Uptown — never "downtown" — your way.
Drop your anchor. The Johner sails soon with the best places to eat, drink, and waste a perfectly good Saturday in New Brunswick's original port town. High tide or low, we'll see you on the waterfront.
